I made a gradient in photoshop for the purposes of the Making Clouds in Photoshop Tutorial Help Guide article.  In the article, I’ve even noted the website where I found the gradient help in order to do so.

However, now that I’m making dramatic text on fire effect using photoshop, the gradient tool wasn’t working.  But I found a way…

Gradient Help, How to Make A Gradient In Photoshop

First select the colors by selecting a “Foreground Color” and a “Background Color”.  See below for direction.

Then press “G” for the gradient tool.  Using your mouse, scroll across your new document.  It can be from any direction, top to bottom, side to side, etc.  Your gradient should appear where ever you scroll your mouse. Congratulations, Hopefully that worked for you! If not…

Gradient Not Showing Up

This must be a small bug in Adobe Photoshop CS3.  I’ve had this problem when doing what I’ve just stated above and nothing happened.  Here’s what I did to make it work (I used a Toggle Method to get it going) …

Press and hold the little gradient image in the tool bar.  Switch over to the paint bucket tool as shown below.

Using your mouse, scroll across your new document.  Your background should appear where you scroll your mouse.  But its only one color.  We really want the gradient, so press and hold the little gradient image to switch back to gradient.

After doing this little toggle from Gradient to Paint Bucket, and then back to Gradient, you should be able to scroll for the gradient, and now it should appear.

That was a quick tutorial for Adobe Photoshop Gradients, but how about Adobe Illustrator Gradients help to go along with it?

  1. [...] Part one of the tutorial was very easy and self explanatory if you know how to create a gradient in photoshop. [...]

  2. [...] The starting point was the creation of a nice gradient for the background.  I’ve already learned how to create gradients in Illustrator, but creating a gradient for a background in Photoshop is a little different.  Thanks to the Applying Gradient Background and Drop Shadow in Photoshop tutorial, I was able to set myself up a cute little background gradient for my new clouds.  If you need help with making your gradient, click here. 3. Very good article. I tried it and it worked perfectly but I have to follow the second method, as mine is also Photoshop CS3.
