Burn A New Feed Problem - How to Migrate from Feedburner to Google

Sep 16th, 2008 | By Adobe-Masters.com | Category: Other Software, Tutorials | 1,053 views | Subscribe | PDF

After submitting two feeds into the new adsense for feeds program, I was unable to submit a third, so I’ve came up with how to submit it by hand.  There’s a simple migration form that publisher’s like HowToGeek and BlogAvenues can use to request a free migration.  It’ll take a few weeks before the request is honored.  A few users have experienced some troubles and issues so I’ve decided to merge my own by hand.

How to Migrate from Feedburner to Google

Google acquired feedburner at 100 million dollars with purpose.  The general idea is to burn your original feed url at feedburner.google.com for ad displays.  My original url is…

adobe-masters.com/feed

The burned copy will look something like this,

feedproxy.google.com/adobemasters

Looking at the actual feedproxy url raised the question, “What’s so different about the migrated feed?”. I found out in the latter, that the adsense for feeds shows up for your subscribers in Google Reader and not on the original url.

Next, login to feedburner.com, click your feed title, the “Edit Feed Details”.

Change the “Original Feed”  url to the new feedproxy url obtained from google.

Migrating to google in a way where I don’t have to update urls was important to me. If you have feeds all over the place, this would be important to you also.

Starting with the original and burning it at Google as described above and as shown in the image below, will allow you to continue using the feedburner url you started withThere’s no need to update your urls. Any syndications will still be in place using this method. If you’re using a feedburner redirect, you’d be able to use either of the three urls.

The main reason for the migration is to participate in the adsense for feeds program.  The last step to accomplish this, is to login and setup the actual ad units.  After clicking the “add”, be sure not to miss the save button.

Some bloggers like dailyblogtips are waiting to hear feedback and opinions before merging their feeds.  Have you migrated yet?  Feel free to share your experiences.
