How to Create Menu Icons In Photoshop

I’m designing a website from scratch and ran across the issue of making menu icons.  Therefore I’ve chosen the “Create Web Site Menus with Icons” post at webdesign.org for a way out.

As always, I the tutored, create the image or design and then blog tips on how to get through the tutorial.  So here goes my help guide…

Tutorial Help Guide for Create Web Site Menus with Icons

There was a mention of setting the dpi to 72 when creating the new document.  Huh?  Now I know that dpi refers to resolution.  When you get to File > New, just type in 72 for the resolution.

We won’t be needing the buttons described in the tutorial, so we can skip over that part, while jumping directly into the icon designing in order to  implement on my new design from scratch psd.

The tut instructed, “…try to represent a circle. Firstly we need to pick up the Ellipse Tool (U) … then press the Alt button to cut out an opening …”  Maybe I didn’t do this right because it didn’t work for me.  As an alternative…

I made a black circle, in which was automatically titled Shape 3.  I used the mouse to drag it beneath Shape 2 in the layers window and got the same outcome.

There’s a second page, so be sure to view it to complete the design.

This icon was made for the How to Design A Website from Scratch, Interfacing In Photoshop for PSD tut so I integrated colors from there.  The integrated color codes include:  3c4549, and 515d62.

The next thing to do is to figure out how to put this newly made icon on the new web design from scratch as a home icon ???

Its not that hard, so don’t panic. Just click here for How to Integrate Menu Icons Into Photoshop Web Design!
